Recommendations for Change - # 128

English Mule/Donkey Pattern
A. The English Mule/Donkey Pattern class is an evaluation on the mule’s/donkey’s ability to perform various maneuvers prescribed by the judge with precision and smoothness. It provides a base for a natural progression to over fences classes.
B. Class Routine:
1. Each mule/donkey will work individually.
2. It is mandatory that the judge post the pattern at least one hour prior to the start of the class. The pattern must include a trot and canter. Patterns may include any of the following maneuvers: walk, sitting trot, extended trot, posting trot, canter, circles, figure 8, halt, back, side pass, change of diagonal, turn on the haunches or forehand, leg yield, simple change of lead, hand gallop, counter canter. The mule’s/donkey’s gaits are to be at the same cadence and speed as one would ride in a hunter under saddle class.

Training Level Donkey English Pattern

Same as above but limited to walk/trot gaits.

Justification and impact if rule is not changed

Justification:Since we correctly removed Mule/Donkeymanship class from the open division we need to replace it with an individually worked skill class judged on the animal’s performance.

Impact: No class of this type is now available for the open mule/donkey open divisions.

Committee Comments

The Committee sees no difference between this class and English Equitation and sees no need to add another class for mules.

Unanimous
